About the QFC

Structure

Within the QFC are the Qatar Financial Centre Authority and the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority.

The Qatar Financial Centre Authority which drives the commercial strategy of QFC, is chaired by the Minister of the Economy and Commerce of the State of Qatar, and its operations are overseen by a Board of Directors. The Chief Executive Officer and Director General of the Qatar Financial Centre Authority is Stuart Pearce, who is also a member of the Authority's Board.

The Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority is a fully independent body with its own Board of Directors, whose Chairman and CEO is Phillip Thorpe, and which reports to Qatar's Council of Ministers. The Regulatory Authority has a broad range of power to authorise, supervise, and when necessary discipline regulated firms and individuals.

The QFC also comprises a Tribunal, in effect a commercial court that will have jurisdiction over disputes arising within the QFC, and an Appeals Body to hear appeals against decisions of the QFC Regulatory Authority. Both the Tribunal and Appeals Body are independent bodies reporting to the Council of Ministers.

Finally, any entity wishing to establish in the QFC must be registered with QFC Companies Registration Office.
