QFC meets UK delegation led by Lord Mayor of London

Stuart Pearce, CEO and Director General of the QFC Authority and Phillip Thorpe, Chairman and CEO of the QFC Regulatory Authority, met the visiting Lord Mayor of London Ian Luder and a delegation of 35 businessmen representing the City of London at the British Embassy on 18 February.

Mr Pearce discussed current developments in the QFC Authority and underlined the strong contingent of British based firms which have been licensed by the QFC, the most recent of which were Citigate Dewe Rogerson and HSBC Insurance Brokers Limited.

Ian Luder-f He also explained the Memorandum of Understanding that exists with UK Trade and Investment Financial Sector Services Advisory Board, to utilize each other’s services for the mutual benefit of their respective financial services sectors and to promote the economic development of both nations. This is the first such agreement reached by the UK in the Gulf region.

As head of the City of London Corporation, which provides business and local government services to the City, the Lord Mayor of the City of London's principal role is ambassador for all UK-based financial and professional services. The Lord Mayor of London is not the Mayor of (Greater) London. He is elected for one year and spends some 90 days abroad during his term of office.

Qatar Financial Centre
The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) is a financial and business centre established by the Government of Qatar and located in Doha. It has been designed to attract international financial services institutions and major multi-national corporations and to encourage participation in the growing market for financial services in Qatar and elsewhere in the region.
