Doha, 20 December 2009
Nigel Newton, founder and Chief Executive of Bloomsbury, has visited Qatar orphanage Dreimah to make a delivery of English language as well as copies of the dual language SELFISH CROCODILE books, donated by Bloomsbury Publishing Plc of London and Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing of Doha, to Qatari orphans. The airfreight of the books from the UK was given by Aramex. The whole operation was instigated and arranged by the Qatar Financial Center Authority.
In addition to helping children in need, one of the aims of the initiative is to establish a long term partnership between Qatar Financial Center Authority, Bloomsbury and Aramex.
Qatar Financial Centre Authority believes encouraging orphan children in the community to read is a positive step towards nurturing their education and future prospects and has chosen to support the initiative as part of its corporate social responsibility to the people of Qatar.
“I was touched by the welcome I received at Dreimah. Bloomsbury is thrilled to be able to help establish this partnership which will go some way to ensuring the needs of Qatari orphans are met”, Newton said. “Books are a great gift and an avenue to new worlds.”
Hassan Mannan, Director of Dreimah said “The viability and the growth of Dreimah is dependent on the support we receive from government and the corporate sector. This unique partnership is a simple but very effective way of enriching the lives of Qatari orphans, something we at Dreimah value greatly.”
