QFC Authority Recognised for IT Security Standards

Doha, 18 January 2010

The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority has been awarded ISO 27001 standard for its Information Technology Security Techniques and Information Security Management. The QFC Authority is the first Qatari governmental body to be so recognized.

The certification covers the scope of IT operations in the two QFC towers in West Bay, as well as the QFC Authority’s distaster recovery site.

The International Organisation for Standardisation is part of the specialized and widely utilized system for worldwide standardization and adoption of best practice.

The achievement of this standard demonstrates the QFC Authority’s commitment to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data under QFCA’s control. This includes operational and staff information, information held by the QFC Regulatory Authority, as well as information on QFC licensed firms. In addition, a number of QFC licensed firms lease space in the QFC Authority’s data centre to support their operations.

Padraic Berry, Chief Information Officer of QFC Authority, said “The process of meeting an ISO standard is a rigorous one and this is particularly the case in respect of ISO 27001, which took us over 18 months to work through. Both for our own data and that of QFC licensed firms we have a responsibility to our clients to ensure that our standards meet the very best in the world and we are proud to be the first public body in Qatar to do so.”
